Five-lever locks and strong bolts are no longer sufficient to protect your home. Fortunately, modern technology offers simple, easy, DIY opportunities for a range of security measures.
Bad guys (particularly burglars) do not like light and it has long been the trend to use time switches to simulate occupancy and PIR flood lights for outdoors. Now, there are options from a simple, single bulb controlled or programmed from your smartphone to a complete house hub. Jeff will explain the range of systems.
Security cameras are something else the bad guys do not like especially as many send video footage to the Cloud making the theft of or damage to the camera fruitless. Jeff will describe the range and types of security cameras available most of which are suitable for DIY deployment.
The final element of a completely secure home is a burglar alarm which, thanks to wire-free sensors and sirens, can be installed without the need for a technician.
With the right choice of components, many of your security gadgets can be controlled from a smartphone or smartwatch and Jeff will show some of these in action.

YouTube started out as a video-sharing social media site in 2005 - but it has become much more than that, due to the wide range of content available there. With modern smart TVs you can even watch from the comfort of your sofa, as well as on mobile devices. From educational, to entertainment, news, sport, problem solving, DIY, cookery, music and more topics too many to mention, there's a wealth of material just waiting to be used! And if you don't mind a few adverts it's all free..
This talk will showcase some specific topics of interest then detail how to find what you want (and what's worth watching), subscribing to channels and saving items to watch later. I'll also touch on the synergies between using the smart phone and TV apps, so you can limit or avoid tedious button pressing on your TV remote.
